we teach

a place for parents and teachers to learn, share, and grow

I am so in awe of Amy for thinking to start this, thanks Amy. But I thought we should have a thread where we can all introduce ourselves / blogs/ jobs. Please add !!

I am Allison McDonald ( Allie) and I am the founder of No Time For Flash Cards a blog / resource of fun targeted at the 1-5 year olds. I have a degree in Elementary Ed ( focus on early literacy)  but have been teaching preschoolers before and after college and love the preschool classroom. I am home now with my 3 year old and baby on the way.

On my blog I pair activities ( art, pretend play, songs, sensory...and more) with books so that parents/teachers can easily do themed activities and connect those activities to books with the goal of promoting literacy and fun!

I have written curriculum  ( really detailed lesson plans) for Itty Bitty Bookworm and adored the challenge , and hope to do more.  I also blog for Family Education.com, Parentella and contribute to Blissfully Domestic.

I adore when I can connect with other teachers and hope this can become a virtual staff room :)

Great idea, Allie--and thanks for starting this thread! It's much easier to find and navigate than the 'welcome' group I started.

I think I'll keep the group in case someone gets to it before finding this thread but will maybe change later.

See? This is why I need a bunch of cool gals to help me out with this--and I love the idea of a virtual staff room. I so miss catching up with adults over lunch like I did when I was teaching. :*)
I, too, am grateful to Amy for starting this and Allie, you hit the nail on the head with a virtual staff room! I miss the collegiality of the staff room!

I am Dawn Little and I am the founder of LInks to Literacy, a company dedicated to enhancing the literacy lives of children. I have a degree in Elementary Ed and one in Curriculum and Instruction. My passion is literacy! I taught upper elementary school prior to staying home with my kids (now 7 and almost 4).

I run two blogs, Teaching with Picture Books (geared towards educators) and Literacy Toolbox (geared towards parents). I also blog for Big Universe and contribute to Literacy Lava. I have been lucky enough. . . and this gives me butterflies to say. . . to write a book that will be published by Scholastic Teaching Resources in September 2010. I'm quite excited, yet still very nervous about the whole process!

I look forward to "meeting," sharing, and connecting with you all!

Hey! :) I know Allie and Amy from earlier but you're all new to me. :) So, hello! Congratulations on your book! That's really great accomplishment! :)

I see you haven't added links to your blogs and you haven't added them here. And you don't have them on your profile. So, can I suggest adding them? If you don't know where to update info, I'll try to help :) Go to "My Page" on the top of the screen, and there is "Manage my page" under your photo on left column. When you click on it, you'll get a new screen where you choose "My page" on the left side. There you can add your blog url, FB page, twitter account, etc. Just click on save and it will show up on your profile page. :)

Looking forward to see your posts.

This is so fun! Thank you Amy for starting this awesome resource! Dawn, congratulations on the upcoming book. That is SO exciting!
I'm Nicole, founder of The Activity Mom (blog). I have a degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning. I've taught 4th grade, 5th grade, and was also an Instructional Intervention Teacher (worked with struggling readers). I'm now at home with my 3 year old son and newborn daughter. My passion for teaching keeps me inspired to try new activities at home with my son and the teacher in me loves to share the ideas with others!
Hey everyone, I am Brandy (known as Branflakes on my blog) and my blog is Adventures of a Flake. I have been married for 8 years and have 2 great kiddos, Aiden is 5 1/2 and Alyssa will be 4 next week. We hope to have another kiddo or two in the next couple of years.

I taught 4 and 5 year olds for 5 years before becoming a stay at home mom. I LOVE early childhood and can't imagine myself working with any other age. Recently, I had to go back to work (part time) and became an art teacher for children under 5. I LOVE my job!

I started my blog a year ago as a way to hold myself accountable to doing our ABC lessons with my kiddos, it worked and I fell in love with blogging and even more in love with blog hopping in the process. I have felt alittle guilty lately because with all the changes in my life in the last few months, my blog and my lessons with my own kids haven't been tended to as much as I would like. I'm getting back into the swing of things now though, so hopefully you'll all start seeing more on my blog soon.
I am Madonna, known on my blog as Lil' Ms. P. This past summer I stepped out of the classroom and became a stay home mom. I founded A Mommy Talks to chronicle my new adventure, as well as connect to other moms.

I hold two degrees one in teaching and one in theater. While teaching, I taught 3rd grade (didn't want to go any younger) with a strong focus in science & social studies. I also had the privileged to be our school writing cluster leader. I am all over the board, I know! :)

I am really excited about this group because I miss collaborating with other teachers and I need all the help I can get with planning activities for my toddler...which later might turn into homeschooling.
I love this idea!! I am Michelle, the mommy from A Mommy's Adventures. I have a degree in Elementary Education and taught 1st and 4th grade before having my daughter Emily (she will be 3 in 2 weeks) and Juliette (almost 7 months). I am currently a stay at home mom and I am loving almost every second of teaching both of my girls.

I started my blog almost a year ago after discovering all the amazing mommy blogs out their with so many great activities for little ones. Emily had been sick and I was stuck at home with her. We needed something to do or we were both going to go crazy. I started doing "projects" with her and it made the day fly by and we both had so much fun. Now she requests different projects and activities and I love looking back at my beginning posts and seeing how much we have grown.

I started stART, A story + Art = A great stART on my blog. This is a weekly linky where other bloggers are able to share a book inspired craft or art project that they did with their child. I love seeing all the great new books and activities that everyone comes up with each week.

I am excited to share and collaborate with other teachers through this group!!
I knew I was in good company! I am so excited for this "Virtual Staff Room" Community and Amy's idea and passion to bring us all together. I have so desired a place to encourage other moms/educators in a forum setting.

My name is Michelle Sybert and I am a former assistant preschool teacher. I just recently went back to school to get my AA in Child Development. I am also a former employee of Gymboree Play and Music, where they hold interactive parent-child classes that encourage learning through play, music, art, parachute play and more.

I am the author of the Blog, Muffin Tin Mom, a place where I share the "good stuff" from my journey as a parent. The cornerstone of my blog is the weekly blog carnival called "Muffin Tin Monday", where the participants get together and share the muffin tin meals we make for our kids. I also blog about crafts and early learning activities for kids as well as DIY projects for mom.

I am so thrilled to be a part of this communtiy and I can't wait to get to know each of you better and to be able to share and encourage one another.
I'm Jenny, a preschool teacher at a progressive preschool in Sydney Australia, and mum to 2 boys. I'm passionate about early childhood education; progressive education and promoting play based learning. I'm currently exploring play in nature; addng natural elements to outdoor playspaces and outdoor play in preschools (and outdoor preschools).

I started my blog a couple of months ago. It is called Let the Children Play and it has little bits of this and that about play, progressive education and preschool.

I'm happy to be here :)
Love this idea, such a nice place to come and share!

I am Debbie author of Children Grow Children Explore Children Learn blog, where I share everything I am doing with my granddaughter to which we are raising.

I spent 6 years working as a full time teacher's aide in Special education. Where I worked with children of all ages with various different degrees of developmental delays. Prior to this I worked in a pre school for children who had speech deficits or were deaf.

I stepped out of the classroom to become a full time homemaker and homeschooler of my two children. Now I am preparing to homeschool my granddaughter.

I look forward to meeting all of you.
Hi Everyone,
My name is Erin and I am a former teacher also. I stay home with an almost 4 year old and a two year old. I have decided not to send my four year old to preschool and am looking forward to reading everyone's ideas! I was wondering, if there was a way we could have a "links" page so I can easily access everyone's wonderful blog!!

i'm dana. i'm a former middle school spanish teacher. (i know, that makes me crazy!) i taught 6, 7, and 8th grade. i also taught in a two-way immersion program for three years. i taught reading, language arts, english and social studies--in spanish! that was a really fun challenge! now i'm a stay at home mom to my two kids, ages 4 and 6.
