Switching Grades

A friend and I were talking the other day about switching grades.  Though some teachers are asked by their principal to move to another grade, other teachers CHOOSE to make a change.  We were wondering what it would be like to move from working in an elementary school to next year working in a middle school.  Have any of you made that decision and what are your thoughts now?
