I'm taking a great PD grad course online through PBS called Cooperation and Collaboration in the 21st century. One of the things we're discussing is the implementation of web 2.0 tools in the classroom. We've been learning about some awesome Web 2.0 tools, so I thought I'd share my list of favorites. Please add yours and let us know how you use them in the classroom !!!
Web 2.0 tool |
How it supports cooperative and project-based learning |
Edmodo (edmodo.com) |
Social learning environment, allows you to give assignments, create library of content/links (and place in folders for projects), collaborative conversations (teacher-student, student-student, all), students can be “grouped” for small group project collaboration, ability to have a co-teacher for cooperative projects with peers outside the classroom, presentation sharing, ability to give “badges” |
Voicethread (voicethread.com) |
Collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents or videos and allows people to leave comments in five different ways. Benefits: a) gives students space and time to thoughtfully consider a response to the content, b) serves as documentation of the classroom conversation, c) can be used by teacher to create interesting, dynamic presentations that students respond to or can be used as another option for a student deliverable, and c) it’s easy to create closed groups, which makes keeping kids safe, sharing and organizing projects for groups of students easy. |
Delicious (delicious.com) |
Social bookmarking site, create organized lists of links for students to explore within a project topic, students create lists to share in coopeartive/project learning |
GoogleDocs (docs.google.com) |
Cooperative Composing – upload files, edit anywhere, choose who can access. Students can work together on a project deliverable. |
Crocodoc (crocodoc.com) |
Cooperative Composing - View and comment on any document – even power points. Students could use when working on a group presentation. |
Wallwisher (wallwisher.com) |
Like digital post-it notes. For collaborative sharing, students or teacher could post a question or topic – everyone in group share ideas on their own post-its. Post-its can contain text, images or video. Great for brainstorming, sharing resources or dividing up group work! |
Primarywall (primarywall.com) |
Similar to wallwisher. Super easy for collaborative sharing – closed group can post notes. |
Pirate Pad (piratepad.net) |
Synchronized writing pad. You invite others onto your pad. Everyone writes in a different color. All in real-time. Alternate way for a group to compose a document! |
Dropbox (dropbox.com) |
File Sharing. Great way for groups to share files so that everyone in the group can accesss them! |
Wikispaces (wikispaces.com) |
Create a wiki, upload images, documents, audio files, video, etc. directly into your page. |
Kidblog (kidblog.org) |
Safe, secure blogging space for students. In projects, kids could publish posts and participate in collaborative conversations. (Teacher monitors and controls blogging.) |
ePals (epals.com) |
Method of finding international collaborative partners and projects. |
Skrbl (skrbl.com) |
Community whiteboard. Groups could brainstorm in real time, all adding ideas to the same whiteboard. |
Pics4learning.com |
Copyright-free photographs for students to use in collaborative presentations! |
Glogster (glogster.com) |
Interactive visual platform. Students can collaboratively create a poster containing multimedia elements (text, audio, video, images, graphics, drawings and data). Great idea for student deliverable after project. |
Prezi (prezi.com) |
Create collaborative presentations. Alternative to power point. Make a presentation by inserting images/video. |
Animoto (animoto.com) |
Create videos. Combine short text phrases, music, videos and images. Use to present project and get students excited – or use as a student deliverable after a project. |
Wordle (wordle.net) |
Generate Word Clouds! Clouds could be created during collaborative group brainstorming, as part of a presentation, or to introduce students to vocabulary necessary for a project. |
Voki (voki.com) |
Create a Custom Avatar. Create a custom avatar and make it talk with your voice. Students could use this for presenting. Gives ability to prepare presentations at home. Can also embed avatars in blogs or wikis – could use it to give directions, state a forum topic, start a discussion… |
Kerpoof (kerpoof.com) |
Creative Multimedia. Kids can collaborate to create original movies, digital artwork, and stories. Could be used as a presentation device in projects. |
Skype (skype.com) |
Videoconferencing Tool. Invite guest speakers “into” the class to enhance a project. Collaborate with students in another location. |
Poll Everywhere (polleverywhere.com) |
Live Polling. Get honest answers through anonymous responses. Get feedback after a presentation. Real-time formative assessment on a topic. Students could use this tool to collect data for a project (surveying peers). |

P.S Don't you love Prezi?! I think it is so cool

Love this list! I have used all of of these except Pirate Pad! My wiki is my biggest obsession. ;) With Glogster as a close 2nd. We're researching U.S. Symbols with QR codes next week. Check out my post about it and the other tech. integration involved. Thanks for sharing. :) You sound like a girl I need to know! ;)
