Have you read/used a great education book lately? Do you have an old favorite that's filled with dog-eared pages and sticky notes that you routinely use? Review it for us here!

When I think of growing as a teacher, I think of getting inspired and stepping out of my comfort zone to try something new! I've started incorporating Whole Brain Teaching into my teaching more, because it's fun and engaging! I've been reading a book by Ron Clark that has really got me pumped up to make learning more fun and impacting! Check out my blog post to read about his fantastic, latest book. This is my favorite quote from the book...
Comment by Lacey Whidden on July 30, 2012 at 12:42am Hi all!
I am hosting a country wide post card swap! One class from each state will be accepted. All of the entries are first come first serve. What do you need? 49 postcards, labels (to make addressing and writing easy), and postage for each card. Please be aware that this is NOT a free project! It will cost a bit to buy those supplies, but I believe the swap will be worth it! I will collect each state's info and create a document with a label for each address, that will save you quite a bit of work! It's also a good idea to type out your message on a label and then have the kiddos attach them to the postcards, this will be a major time saver. ALL cards MUST be sent by the first of November. This will allow enough time for you to get them together and make sure they are all swapped in a timely manner. This is a great opportunity to teach letter writing, as well as social studies. I will probably read the postcards with my students, study each state briefly, Google Earth the address on the card, and I think it would be AWESOME to Skype with a class or two! :) (Let me know if you're interested in that as well).
Okay, now down to the nitty gritty....
So far I have filled slots for Florida (my state), California, and Indiana. THAT'S IT! I still have sooo many states to fill.

Comment by Carolyn Wilhelm on April 2, 2012 at 6:23pm I have taught several grade levels and gifted ed, and they were all great experiences but it costs money to build resources and it takes time to build new curriculum materials. This discussion may be better on a different group in We Teach. My husband was a high tech "migrant worker" (joke but that describes it) and we moved to different towns in the 70's. It is amazing how much overlap there is between grade levels, and that is a little discouraging to see. Repetition is the key to education it true!
Comment by Keys4Education on April 1, 2012 at 1:00pm A friend and I were talking the other day about switching grades. Though some teachers are asked by their principal to move to another grade, other teachers CHOOSE to make a change. We were wondering what it would be like to move from working in an elementary school to next year working in a middle school. Have any of you made that decision and what are your thoughts now?

ANyone out there working on homework like that? It is tough to keep on thinking of new and different ideas so I would love to share. I am also not good at using all of this new stuff but want to learn!
