Hi all!

I am hosting a country wide post card swap! One class from each state will be accepted. All of the entries are first come first serve. What do you need? 49 postcards, labels (to make addressing and writing easy), and postage for each card. Please be aware that this is NOT a free project! It will cost a bit to buy those supplies, but I believe the swap will be worth it! I will collect each state's info and create a document with a label for each address, that will save you quite a bit of work! It's also a good idea to type out your message on a label and then have the kiddos attach them to the postcards, this will be a major time saver. ALL cards MUST be sent by the first of November. This will allow enough time for you to get them together and make sure they are all swapped in a timely manner. This is a great opportunity to teach letter writing, as well as social studies. I will probably read the postcards with my students, study each state briefly, Google Earth the address on the card, and I think it would be AWESOME to Skype with a class or two! :) (Let me know if you're interested in that as well).

Okay, now down to the nitty gritty....
So far I have filled slots for Florida (my state), California, and Indiana. THAT'S IT! I still have sooo many states to fill.

If you are interested please contact me via e-mail @ MissWhiddens2nds@gmail.com.

BEWARE: UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Thanks so much,

I'm running a guest post geography series on my blog, and thought I'd mention it here in case anyone is interested in guest posting. Here are the posts that have gone up so far:

Email me (mamasmilesblog at gmail dot com) if you would like to participate - here's a little more info about the series:

I am taking guest posts about a country, city, or state that you know well, presented in a child-friendly format. Ideally, parents following the series will learn a little about the country, city, or state, and get some ideas of ways to teach their child about that location as well. Some things you might consider sharing:

  • One paragraph bio of famous person from this location
  • What they eat for breakfast or a signature food or kid friendly recipe
  • Something invented in that country
  • Flag/money/map
  • An animal or plant that is native/important to that country
  • Craft product originating from that country
  • A link to somewhere you can listen to a piece of music from that country.
  • Name of an author or children’s book from that country

I have been working on a Fifty States Project with my children since last summer. You can read about it here: http://superheroesandprincesses.blogspot.com/search/label/fifty%20s...
