Our favorite parenting coping device is revenge.  We have a Revenge Plan...all those things we will do back to the kids when they are grown up.

I write children's stories on Good Night, Sleep Tight (www.gn-st.com) to encourage communication and imagination between the child and the parent/caregiver. I have also added some of my reflections and experiences raising Third Culture Kids (as well as being married to one!). Is anyone else in the forum raising a multicultural or multi-lingual family?

As an ECE educator of 3-5 year olds I see the wide range of readiness in the children. Most do fairly well during the school day (with pull ups for nap time) because of the consistent schedule. So for parents my best advice is consistency, consistency, consistency is the key-- and that is the hard part for parents, I know! I also would recommend less "rewards" -- more positive reinforcement (validation of taking care of themselves--wow your are growing up, great job, you did that all by yourself)  and a matter of fact attitude. This is one area I see great power struggles between parent and child. They all get it, even if some are later rather than earlier.

Madonna, I thought of you this week.  My 2.5 year old "got it" and has gone from lots of accidents each day to zero accidents even when sick in 2 weeks time.  It's been a few months, so hows your fella doing?  Has it clicked yet?

When potty training you have to introduce it to your child by just sitting them on the potty and give the a book or toy they love or put on a dvd they like where they will sit for a little while and just keep talking to them about them using the potty,my son was 2 1/2 when he was trained and I thought I was never going to get there(smile)but we did and I bought him books and elmo potty dvd and that helped somewhat but I think they will just do it when they are ready,my son's doctor said that we can't train them they will learn it on their own because they have to get the feeling of it,maybe getting the pull-ups with the cooling sensation in them,well I hope everything goes well and good luck.

I used to be an early childhood educator and watched hundreds of children master the potty. If you do absolutely nothing, most girls manage it between 2 1/2 -3 and boys 3- 3 1/2.

Madonna, I read your post on FB. I'm currently (kind of) potty training my son who will be three next month. He has yet to poo in the potty! We are currently in pullups bc we've just been so busy.
