a place for parents and teachers to learn, share, and grow

I'm sharing this here, because I'd love to share progress and connect with others who try out this program.

Reading Horizons' Free Summer Reading Program

I only have five children set up. They have given me 12 accounts to use. I'm working with all the children at no charge. Two are my own. The other 3 are children who I know their parents well and know they are struggling with reading. All 5 children are entering 4th grade in the Fall.

So far I like the program a lot. I have an account respresentative to answer questions and provide support. I have already spoken to her on the phone and she is sending me a manual by mail. This online program is about $199 per year.  There are no strings attached. I've been asked to make sure to use the assessments on children at the beginning of the program and at the end. I will be asked to participate in a short phone interview at the end of the summer.

I forgot to add something. The program says it's for 10 year olds and up. I think it would work for any child who has completed first grade and is struggling a little with reading.

I hope I get some people to join me in this adventure. My account representative said it didn't matter how many kids I signed up. I think it would be okay for someone to sign up only one child.
