A Is For Apple...

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/A-Is-For-Apple-Craftivity-1445323
Hey Kinder Friends,
Let's just call the first few weeks...busy to say the least. I mean really the beginning is almost a distant memory for sure. And things were moving right along and then all of the sudden boom Open House. I honestly found myself a little frantic as the day approached. I had nothing to display and really nothing I could pull off with a very large class. We had been reading a lot of books about names and working hard to learn how to write names so somewhere in the middle of creating nameplates for each student and adding names to every book box and locker this idea just came to be.

Honestly, I love just about anything you can print and run with because time is so precious during the school year. I created these printable templates for this apple craft so that I would have something to use as we work on writing names and also use to hang in the hallway for Open House. I ended up just loving these because of their simplicity to prepare and pull off for a fast and fun Open House project.

I used the colored card stock I had on hand so there really was no rhyme or reason or even pattern to the colors but somehow that just came together for me this time. I decided that for this project I would cut the apple pieces because I wanted them to focus on their name and I had to get this project accomplished with 27 kids in one morning session and hung up even before the glue was dry.

When all was said and done and I turned to leave for the day, I looked back and saw the apples all hanging in a row it just looked like...Kindergarten. And I got so excited that I went home and made the templates for a P is for pumpkin craft. So, if you find yourself in a bind for a little apple or pumpkin craft and need more information just click on the images above!

Alphabet Teacher Resources!

Hey Kinder Friends,
I am sure you are in your rooms and everything is going along just as you planned it. And you are not even thinking about another resource for your classroom unless you are like me. Before I shut my classroom door this summer, I took one last look around and paused at my alphabet line before I turned out the light. That alphabet line has been on my mind ever since that day. It was right up there on the top of my to do list. It is still one of the items not crossed off yet!
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Teacher-Resources-1436982
Don't think I haven't shopped around and seen some of the cutest ABC's around. I just can't make up my mind. I can't commit and I am ashamed to say it. Maybe it is because the ABC posters were one of the first things I hung up in the classroom when I became a teacher or maybe it is because it is such a functional piece within all classrooms that makes the choice hard for me. I knew an ABC poster set from a traditional teacher store would never work for me because I want a little versatility, coordination and some options. After a little thinking I realized that I wanted a set that included both blackine and colored versions for different reasons.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Alphabet-Teacher-Resources-1436982
And when I did find one I wanted to display, would I want the posters in color or would I want them in blackline so I could print them on any color I wanted? And if I did want a color, what in the world would that color be? My mind just kept wandering... If I printed the blackline version, I could print the vowels on a different color. Or if I printed the color version, I could back the letters with colored construction paper. Every time I tried to decide on what to buy, instead I started thinking of what else I wanted the set to include. So I decided to make my own set that I could have on hand to use each year and print what I wanted just exactly how I wanted it.
Now I guess you could say I am a little closer to making up my mind. I have both color and blackline and all the resources math and coordinate. I know for sure I am printing those bla'ckline posters and making big books. I am printing the flash cards to use with games and small groups. I love how I will be able to print just as many sets as I want with a download instead of a single traditional store bought set. I know I am printing the ABC cards in color for school and blackline to send home. And I am printing books for home and take home folders too. Yes, school has started but life is just too short to live with ABC's that you don't just love. So I am giving myself a deadline to decide on color or blackline on colored paper for my big ABC posters. If you are on the fence about your ABC's why not change? Life is really too short to live with yucky ABC's! If you need more info just click on the images above!

Number Talking UPDATES!

Hey Kinder Friends,
I can't believe that school starts tomorrow. I am just a little nervous I guess. I have had a little bit of a rough start with a few things not working properly and I am sure that adds to my feeling. But no matter what, we start tomorrow and I am ready to get going. Is everything perfect? Probably not but it is close and that is close enough for me. Let's just..do it!
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-Talking-Teacher-Resources-659681
I have been thinking about the beginning of the year Number Talks in my classroom and deciding how I will start or kick this off this year. In my district we have had a mandated "master schedule" approach to our daily schedule. I have spent some time trying to figure out what that would look like in my classroom. I was thinking about all the different components of mathematics instruction I already have in place and I wondered where Number Talks would fit in for me this year. I used to have a perfect "stand alone" time for Number Talks but now I have a big math block all in one. I was really struggling to find the place in the schedule that would work for me and my students. I really wanted the entire math block to have flow and movement that felt natural and left enough time for us to process what we were doing and why we were doing it.
Knowing that I had to incorporate Number Corner, a focus lesson, independent practice, paired practice, small groups, intervention, progress monitoring, goal setting, mini conferences, evaluation, reflection and Number Talks into my block, I decided that Number Talks was going to have to do double duty for me this year! So my Number Talks will be at the end of my math block. I sure didn't want to have back to back whole group sessions of math because of the obvious... This way I can use it as a way to provide time to reflect on what and how we did when we were working independently, in pairs or small groups and end the time with Number Talking. This will help hold me accountable for allowing time for reflection because I know that it is right before my favorite part...Number Talking. And I like how we end the entire math block with something that has been a class favorite of mine and my students!
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-Talking-Teacher-Resources-659681
I have updated the Number Talking file in my store that now includes an editable set of slides for hand signals that provide the structure of the Number Talking in the classroom.
You can now create slides and make it what you want to fit your needs or you can use the ones provided. I am looking forward to having this option as I start my own Number Talking sessions in my class the first week of school! The first week our goals are just getting to the area and sitting in a good spot. On day one, I read Christopher Counting and talk about how I have loved to count since I was five. The rest of the week we focus on the first signal and how to sit in our good spots. I am taking it slow and simple.
If you already have this resource please download again to get the new editable signal slides and if you need more information just click on the images above!

Hello. Back in January I started a discussion about working with LaunchPad Learning and you asked me to keep you posted. The company is geared toward readers at a third grade reading level and above. LaunchPad has the ability to set up a code for you to give 10% off to customers and get 10% of sales for yourself. This system is set up for bloggers and businesses. Since you are a kindergarten blogger, this may not be the best product to recommend.

Your school might be interested in starting a Spring fundraiser with LaunchPad Learning and two other educational companies. K5 Learning and LaunchPad Learning share 20% of sales with schools and organizations. My kids' school is having a fundraiser with all three companies I share information about on my Parent and Child Reading Assistance website. I put together a great tri-fold brochure with fundraiser sites, some free online learning sites, and summer learning tips. I'd be happy to share the brochure with your school if anyone is interested. It's a super easy fundraiser and it can happen through emails and flyers. The companies send percentage checks directly to the school. BookPig donates books to schools at a subscriber's request.

Hi, I'm trying to round up all the group leaders on WE TEACH for Amy Mascott to enroll them in a secret leaders group on Facebook.  Could you please friend me on Fb so I can do this for Amy?  http://www.facebook.com/wilhcar  It is taking me forever to find people and add them.  Or, you can friend Amy on Fb and remind her why and that may work, also, then she would add you.  Thanks, Carolyn
