beginning to read..

hey.. im not sure whether this has come up here before but i'm looking for some advice.. basically my son has had a good grasp of his letter sounds for a while now (hes 4) and can always pretty much, identify the beginning sound of a word. however, he seems to really hit a wall when trying to move from there.. he struggles to understand the concept of blending sounds to make a cvc word or even to identify middle and end sounds... what can i / should i be doing to help from here?much…See More

Retaining letter sounds

Here in the UK, we teach lower case letters first, referring to them by their sounds. I sometimes find it dificult to get my son to really commit the sound to memory and remember the letter symbol it pertains to. We have done a lot of work on t for example but then sometimes if I ask him what the symbol is he will say c c c... I don't know if I'm explaining very well here.. but I think part of the problem is the sounds sounding quite similar when said in isolation... and also trouble recalling…See More
